Center Speaker Buyers Guide

Buying a new center speaker for your home entertainment system doesn’t have to be difficult. However, if you rush into the purchase, you could find out later that you’ve either spent too much money, or didn’t match up the speaker to your entertainment system as well as you could have. There are some models on the market that carry a high price tag, that could easily lead you to believe that they are higher quality, but the truth is, that if you didn’t know what to look for, they may not match the type of sound system that you are trying to build.

Try To Match The Wattage & Ohms With Your DVD Player – The first step in ensuring that you are getting the clearest possible sound from your center channel speaker is to make sure that you are matching up the OHM and wattage output with that of what your DVD or component stereo can handle. For instance, if your DVD player or component stereo puts out a maximum of 50 watts per channel, you do not want to purchase a center channel speaker that can handle 200 watts of output. Your system will never put out enough power to fully utilize the speakers capabilities. Rather, you would want to purchase a speaker that is more suited to 60-70 watts to ensure you are getting the most for your money.

Determine Whether You Need Tall Or Wide Speakers – Both types of speakers play a different role in your sound system. Tall speakers are better in smaller rooms, where the sound is more compacted towards just a few people, or a small area. However, wide center channel speakers are able to project sound at a wider distance, which makes them a great choice in large rooms, or where your furniture in front of the television is spread out.  With either type, you can use cube shelving to help organizer your speakers better.

Remember To Buy Reputable Manufacturers’ Speakers – The biggest problem consumers face when they are buying electronic components is trying to save too much money. Saving a few dollars is an excellent idea, but when you try to save too much you end up downgrading yourself to manufacturers that may not have the strongest research and development, or come backed by years of experience in building electronic components. Because of this, you want to make sure that you are purchasing only from high end manufacturers, even if you have to downgrade the model that you purchase to make it slightly more affordable.
